A project for the production of hydrogen thanks to renewable sources.

BIG HIT is the result of the Orkney Surf ‘n’ Turf initiative, which will see the production of hydrogen on the Eday and Shapinsay islands using wind and tidal energy.

The renewable electricity generated on the Eday and Shapinsay islands is used by electrolysers to produce hydrogen, by electrolysis of water. This hydrogen is then stored as high pressure gas in tubular trailers, which can be transported to the mainland Orkney islands.
